Looks like Orchard Central is almost turning into a Japanese themed mall with a Global Flagship store of Uniqlo, Tokyu Hands and many Japanese food places.
Say “Hello” to financiers, madeleines and biscuits, all packed prettily in boxes with the opening of Japanese patisserie chain Henri Charpentier at Level 1.
This is primary a kiosk with a small seating area.
Some of the signature items include their popular Financiers ($2.90 for 1) made with fragrant almond and an original cultured butter recipe; Madeleines ($2.90 for 1) made with Hokkaido flour, Japanese lemons, fragrant rum and honey; and Petits Gâteaux Assortis ($14.30 for 8 pieces in a box).
With a slice of tart or cake was between $7.50 to $9.50, it is on the pricey side.
However, their cakes are generally of a good quality – soft, fresh cream used, and not too sweet, with Strawberry Shortcake, Matcha Opera and Mille Crepe counting as some of my favourites.
Their packaging is also top-notch, with dry ice given and boxes correctly aligned, almost ensuring that no cakes ‘get hurt’ in the process of takeaway.
