Choo Choo offers one of the best Korean Fried Chicken In Singapore. I will be open enough to say I am a fan.
Its first outlet at Bugis Bali Lane is small and humble, out of obvious sight with the ‘family-oriented’ vibes which is rather appealing. The new branch at downtown Orchard Cineleisure is a huge contrast, a lively casual restaurant concept that looks set to capture the youth market.
There are two new dishes at the Orchard Cineleisure branch – the Choo-Pa-Chi ($25) with chicken bites served on a plate with spring onions, poured over with a light sweet and sour sauce; and Rose Chicken ($30) which includes a rose cream sauce within a bread bowl.
We are not entirely sure how the Choo-Pa-Chi dish works. It was served on a hot plate that was not hot. And crispy chicken poured with watery sauce which made the chunks turned soggy quick. Though the bountiful spring onions worked as some form of refreshing salad.
For the first timer to Choo Choo, stick to the fried chicken.
Fried chicken are served in flavours of Original, Soy, Spicy, Garlic or Sweet, in the form of Whole Chicken ($29.90), Crispy Wings ($16/$29), 8-Piece Wings ($16) and Cup Chicken ($8).
This time, we all gave our votes to the garlic-flavoured ones – moist meat, light crispy batter glazed with a sweet savoury sauce that is quite ‘finger-licking good’ (Technically, it should be glove-licking good.)
Repeat steps of suck (the sauce), bite (the meat) and lick (remaining juices).
The Spam Rice Burger ($7) and Spicy Spam Burger ($8) deserve a special mention – sushi like burgers with rice patty with spam, mayonnaise and kimchi sandwiched in between.
Guilt fully delicious, but one could possibly NOT finish this after wings, as they do get ‘jelak’ (rich) after two bites. (Imagine eating 4 sushi at the same time.) Share or go for the Mini Burgers (3 for $10).
We are just happy that there is more Korean Fried Chicken at Orchard that could give the other more established brands a run for their money.
