Kith – Brunch Food & Coffee From 6:30am, New Branches Near Somerset Orchard

Kith has come a long way since its humble days at Park Mall. I used to think that one of most scenic cafes to hang out in Singapore for a lazy day out, would be Kith at Sentosa Cove. It has regrettably closed – the hearsay was high rental issues.

The local chain has expanded to a few more branches, notably at Winsland House II and Ascott Orchard. Both are walking distance from Somerset MRT station at Orchard.

The café known for its coffee and fuss-free dishes, has obviously gone through a rebranding exercise. Its design and décor look somewhat more corporate-targeted, with a consistent look, and focus on meeting rooms and spaces at a few of its branches.

So it is not quite like the original ‘Kith’ I used to know in the past.

My general sense is that it seemed to have captured awareness from the expat crowd, but may have distanced the more indie, hipster coffee drinkers. I have seldom seen the brand in my foodie radar of late, compared to in the past. Ironically.

Anyway, I needed breakfast and coffee near Orchard Road, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the outlet at Ascott operates from 6:30am, while Winsland House II opens from 7:30am onwards. Brunch is served till 5pm.

For those who are unaware, Winsland House is a 5 to 10 minute walk from Somerset MRT station. Walk in the direction of Killiney Post Office and Lanson Place.

The brunch menu consists of Muesli ($8.00), Salmon & Eggs ($19.00), Better Than Benny ($18.00), Pulled Pork & Eggs ($24.00), Poached Eggs & Avocado ($16.00), Pancakes ($16.00) and Grilled Sandwiches ($10.00).

Nothing that pops out, perhaps gotten a tad predictable with many other cafes serving similar items.

The Cajun Scrambled Egg ($17.00) was possibly my favourite – the scrambled eggs creamy and fluffy enough, with pieces of smoked bratwurst adding those savoury bites. Between bites, there was a faint whiff of truffle oil which didn’t overpower.

However, the Kith Breakfast ($19.00) was comparatively underwhelming. The rosemary-garlic mushrooms tasted under-seasoned, roasted tomatoes squashy, and bacon could have been crispier. Hardly a component that stood out, with the exception of the toast perhaps. Maybe wasn’t the kitchen’s day.

Need to return to try more food.
