Nunuiwangja (pronounced as Nun-ee-wang-ja in Korean) also known as “Snow Prince”, set up his fortress in the hills at HillV2
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, he will probably feel lonely staying up in the Hill(wiew) until the Downtown line for HillView station opens next month.
Being the nth Korean bingsu café that opened this year, Nunuiwangja felt just like any other Korean bingsu cafes out there, initially.
The Classic Bingsus ($12.90) are the usual suspects: Injeolmi, Green Tea and a local rendition Milo flavoured bingsu. Safe options and not that exciting after all.
The Premium Bingsus ($14.90) sounded more interesting to us – Mango Cheese, Honey Grape and Tangerine, using tropical fruits which were uncommon in other bingsu cafes.
The shaved milk was soft, refined and fluffy, just like the skin of an Ice Prince (as their name implies), but could be a little icy at times.
Grapes added might seem a little scarce on the surface, but more could be found within the layers of milk shaving, giving it a light and refreshing citrusy touch.
Interestingly, instead of the usual milk to enhance the sweetness of the bingsu, honey was used for a more layered taste.
Just like a fairytale, the surprise element continues as we dug further into the pile of shaved snow, revealing a purple popsicle.
Wrapped around by a layer of grape gelatin, the grape ice popsicle was an interesting twist to the entire bingsu saga.
Saranghaeyo. Chewy on the outside and juicy on the inside, a single popsicle might not be ideal for sharing. We will not go further on what happens if you DO share a popsicle.
Nunuiwangja may seem common like any other n Korean bingsu cafes out there, but there’s something interesting and special about this Prince (wangja). Maybe this Snow Prince will be your Mr. Right.
