White Truffle, Parma Ham with Melon, White Rabbit Candy, Thai Earl Grey… these are ice cream flavours available at Dessert Project. What?!
Dessert Project is an ice cream café at Jalan Bt Ho Swee (really near Havelock Food Centre side) serving Shibuya style Toasts, Waffles, Lava Cakes and Coffee.
Coffee beans are from Gentleman’s Coffee Company.
18 rotating ice cream flavours are churned out every week, and some promises to be more adventurous and exciting than others. Other than the previous mentioned, we saw Tiramisu, Coconut, Espresso, Lemon Mint Crush, Philippines Mango, After Eight and Strawberry Cheesecake.
$3.80 for single scoop, $7.20 for double.
What I realised after trying a few is that their flavours are quite pronounced and strong. Their White Truffle used to be more obvious, though I realised it was tamed a notch after a return visit.
The Melon and Parma Ham needs getting used to. While the rock melon base was refreshing, the bits of parma ham with that touch of saltiness in between did not quite gel with the overall texture.
While Dessert Project met with initial oven problems, and complaints that there were not enough butter in the toast, the café sprung back with toasts with more than enough butter – that’s the way we like it. (Aha aha
The Gula Melaka Coconut Toast ($14.90) – a 3 inch toast with 2 scoops of coconut ice cream, whipped cream, grated coconut flakes and gula melaka syrup, was surprisingly soft and buttery.
Every warm piece with a spread of cold creamy ice cream was guilt-fully satisfying. Not overly sweet too.
