The Baking Cloud is a new cafe specialising in alcoholic desserts and drinks that shares the same space as Level Ground Bar.
Focusing on alcoholic desserts and coffee, The Baking Cloud is located just two doors away from PIVOT which is known for their Tamago Sando.
The 40 seaters space is huge for a shop in the CBD, decked in black and red colours with several metal barrels placed in various spots within the compound.
Their signature items are their Alcoholic Latte (Hot $8.90, iced $9.90), Alcoholic Cupcake ($5.50), Alcoholic Cake Jar ($18), Alcoholic Chocolate Shots (7 pieces for $12) and The Flaming Surprise ($28), all alcoholic in nature.
Be in for a theatrical surprise as The Flaming Surprise ($28) which is a Yakult Soju Ice Cream Cake Bombe Alaskan flambéed when served, giving it a nice torched and caramelised layer of meringue on the outer surface.
The Yakult Soju Ice Cream Cake was quite refreshing, but could be a little too damp due to the amount of alcohol drenched on it for the flaming effect.
Beverage-wise, the Alcoholic Latte (Hot $8.90, iced $9.90) comes with either Jack Daniels Whisky or Baileys added into it, giving it a nice and strong alcoholic kick.
Non-alcoholic drinks are also available for those who prefer not to indulge in alcohol during the day, and these include Espresso ($3.50), Americano ($4), Latte ($4.90), Cappuccino ($4.90), Mocha ($5.90) and Hot Chocolate ($5.90).
The Hot Chocolate ($5.90) reminded me of the one I had at Cafe Bakeaholic, with a single chocolate shell that melts and releases the marshmallows when hot milk is poured over it.
Other desserts such as the Alcoholic Cupcakes ($5.50) come in 3 different flavours, namely Baileys Chocolate, Jack Daniels Whiskey and Merlot Red Wine, all infused with a single shot of alcohol within the centre of the cupcake.
I had The Jack Daniels Whiskey Cupcake ($5.50) made with a chocolate cake base, chocolate buttercream, topped with a mini chocolate bar and a Whiskey shot within it.
The chocolate cake was moist and the rich flavour was instantly intensified by the Whiskey shot upon release.
Two Alcoholic Cake Jar ($18) are available: Yakult Soju and Jack Daniels Whiskey, the latter is an upsized version of the cupcake with granola and cornflakes that adds an additional crunch to the texture.
For those who prefer something non-alcoholic, The Baking Cloud offers Nutella Brownie Cake Jar ($15), 4 inch Bento Cakes ($18) and Cakesicles (4 for $20 and requires pre-order).
That being said, The Baking Cloud has found a niche in the market and caters to those who enjoy and appreciate alcoholic desserts and coffee.
