Naganuma Ice – Famous Hokkaido Soft Serve Shop Opens In Singapore, With Crème Brûlée Soft Serve At Tanjong Pagar

Here’s why the fuss: Naganuma Ice’s soft serve is raved for using 100% Hokkaido raw milk, and with queues in Japan and Taiwan that lasts for up to an hour.

It is also the only softserve company from Hokkaido known to use 100% Hokkaido raw milk and Hokkaido ingredients.

The soft serve and gelato shop has opened a kiosk concept store at Carlton City Hotel.

Strange choice of a first location as that is the side that does not get much foot-traffic.

Perhaps they are banking that diners from the Japanese restaurants across at Orchid Hotel would walk over for some desserts after their meal.

Compared to many soft serve shops that offer say maximum of 2 to 3 flavours, there are actually 9 that you can pick from. No twists though.

They include Rich Milk, Matcha, Corn, Yubari Melon, Ebisu Pumpkin, Red Wine, Strawberry, Chocolate, and Aomori Apple.

Priced at $5.00 per cup, $5.50 on a cone. There is also a Singapore-exclusive Crème Brûlée Soft Serve ($8) powdered with sugar at the top, then torched.

I was recommended the Matcha Soft Serve ($5.50), which I thought was a decent treat – smooth, moderately light and milky.

The bitter matcha notes were not too heavy on this, if you were expecting that lingering tea taste.

On the flipside, I thought the soft serve was fairly watery and started melting away as soon as I got my hands on the cone. This is despite the fact that the weather is quite cool of late.

The Yubari Melon was pleasantly not too sweet, though I wished that the melon flavour could be more pronounced.

While I think Naganuma Ice is a not-bad soft serve, there are actually many fairly good brands available – like those in pop-up stores at Meida-ya Supermarket. In fact, Matchaya right across at Icon Village, is not that bad. Yah?
