It’s not the likeliest of places you would find a florist cum café, but the newly revamped Lau Pa Sat is where The Little Flower Shop Cafe & Bar is located.
The florist was originally at the food centre for 7 years, known to bring in flower merchandise from all over the world.
Its café component includes flower tea from one of my favourite French luxury tea brand Betjeman & Barton, flower Infused macarons, savoury canapes & sandwiches, and flower cocktails.
I would have imagined that this would be a perfect place to savour tea at your own pace, smell the sweet scene of flora and fauna, and nibble at small dessert bites. If the café was set in a garden.
But as The Little Flower Shop was at Lau Pa Sat (opposite Wendy’s), it meant that spaces can be cramped, customers may need to ‘fight’ for a seat, and the most obvious scent is Indian curry from the next stall, if you sit outdoors.
The entire concept is very inspiring though. The owners obviously put in some considerable thought into décor and accessories. There was a stalk of fresh rose on every table, tea cups and plates had floral motifs and napkins given were of higher quality with bloomy patterns.
I like cafes which have a strong theme.
Food can be said to be dainty and petite. The sandwiches offered ($6.00 for a piece, $8.90 for a set) would not fill up a hungry man, but at least taste delightful – soft bread with confit chicken fillings.
The same can be said about the Mini Flowery Hotdog Set ($8.90), which I could finish with 3 pops into my mouth. So this place is probably for ladies who want to dine light light light.
Macarons ($3.80 per piece) are floral infused and better than the average available here, but priced more than what I would be willing to pay.
The Little Flower Shop while indeed little in space and portions, has character, and services with a smile. If I work nearby, I may find some time here to stop and smell the roses.
